Just because the books are so different and the show is too modern. Sherlock looks nothing like the one described in the books and it is not something that can be modernized in my honest opinion. But if you like it, good for you, I respect that :)

I think its an interesting take, and what the writers/producers said is kind of how I view it. When Sherlock Holmes was in its hayday, the focus wasn’t on the Victorian era, that was just the time period it was in. There was no allure of the well dressed men with their hats and pipes and such. I think by modernizing Sherlock, you kind of get to look at it that way, where its more about the characters and the cases, not the scenery.
